Why Go Camping?
Camping is something that is done – by definition – outdoors, usually for recreational purposes. A person who goes camping is known as a camper, and they tend to enjoy spending time in natural settings, outside of cities or heavily urbanized areas.
Camping is a timeless activity and is practiced throughout the world. However, in America, camping didn’t become as popular as it is these days until about the turn of the last century, when national parks and other publicly owned land became more accessible to the average person.
Of course, prior to this, people spent countless days and nights in conditions that today would be considered camping conditions, because people traveled by foot, lived in rural areas and were involved in work that was very close to nature.
Camping has many benefits, including improvements in physical health and fitness, stress reduction, and many other spiritual aspects that are unique to the person going on their camping adventure. While there are many types of camping and camping activities, in general they tend to fall into a few categories – including survivalist camping, outdoors trekking, social camping, mobile camping and a myriad number of specialized camping activities that run the gamut of sedate vacations to extreme adventures in very hostile environments across the world.
These days, probably two of the most famous and popularly known campers would include Les Stroud and Bear Grylls – both of which are extremely experienced and talented outdoorsmen.
We hope you have a lot of fun during your next camping adventure, but we also ask you to please be careful and use your head when spending time outdoors. It’s best to go with a group, and have a way to communicate your location to someone who can help you. There are many resources on the web on proper camping techniques, and we urge you to do some research to ensure that your next camping trip will be safe and rewarding. |
